The Jesus Lizard vs My Chemical Romance
In a fight, or a drinking contest, or even just busting it out live David Yow would kick their skinny little asses any day of the week.
Amen
Happy days are here again !!!
Gawd August was a pain. Tired physically, overcast emotionally led to one hell of a grumpy Newt. I try not to make this place a whingefest, hence no posts in August.
I’m over it now and back to my bouncy self.
Quick update
- I’ve joined the Gym and I’m loving it. Going again tomorrow or swimming (mmn whalemeat). Physical exercise rawks!
- Resurrected the writing project that I was actually going to get commercially published. Nearly torpedoed it with grumpiness towards the publisher (DOH!).
- Nearly finalised the games programme for Furnace (www.rpgfurnace.com). We’ve got D&D, Cthulhu, Burning Wheel, HeroQuest (of various flavours), Savage worlds, Traveller and a couple of small indie games (my own Monkey game included). Big push to get it full soon.
- Sending my mum in Northumberland houses down this neck of the woods (OL2 Royton/Shaw) for a planned move nearer to us.
- Finally played some Burning Wheel via Skype which rawks

Life continues to move at light speed in the land of black puddings and opportunity.
Just about recovered from Continuum last weekend. I was lying when I said I was having a break from my gaming pursuits, since almost imeadiatly after posting that I was rattling of a proposal (for something I was actually commissioned to do about a year ago), shooting off emails and been asked to write for a new project which should be quick easy fun and actually make me a bit of loot (codenamed: Yes project).
Rachel officially joined the IPOD generation on Saturday, and despite the Nano she bought not being pink has wholeheartly bought into the whole brand.
Next project on my list of things to do after moving house is learn to drive. Of course before they let you control a ton of steel on the open road at high speed you have to have 20/20 eyesight. For those of you who have seen me squint or move closer to a notice you know that I don’t fulfil this criteria. In fact I gave up wearing my glasses 10 years ago, when I was poor skint and wanted to chase girls (in fact once I took off my glasses they started chasing me!!!). But my girl chasing days are over and I want to learn to drive. So on Saturday we went to the Spec Savers in Oldham and in an impressive 45 mins I had been eye tested and sold 2 pairs of modern glasses, one for general use one for looking suave at IT meetings. An hour an a half later I have the glasses, and I’m discovering a whole world of signs and words on the drive home. Had fun watching Battlestar Gallatica on the uberTV and noticing all the extra detail, with the added bonus I recline on the sofa the other side of the room. Only one drawback is that I can now see all the dust and muck around the house, which led to a frenzy of cleaning up.
So I’m busy getting used to viewing the world through glass and will fill/send off provisional liscene form today. Then in a couple of weeks I’ll start learning with the same instructor who taught Rachel 13 years ago and who lives just round the corner.
Back to reality?
Continuum was a blast of fun. I met lots of nice people, played some excellent games, drank lots, stayed up late, got a big pile of role-playing goodies and had way too much fun. The maddest part of it was it whooshed by far too fast. Didn’t so much go into work on Tuesday, but crash landed.
Some crazy people have already been talking about their next con, even the next Continuum in 2008!, or what they are planing to write. Me I’m going to take it easy for a couple of weeks. Tend the garden, play computer games, stroke cats and design/write websites.
Whooosh!!!!!!
I’m off to Continuum tomorrow. The culmination of about three months hard work, including one hard-drive crash which resulted in a major change of plans and a desperate dash to the finish line that I’m currently heading towards. The result? A weekend of Mega Gaming Fun; 24 hours of runing games (or the Narattorthon as I’m calling it) , catching up with good friends I only see at these events and beer in sunny Leicester. Since the venue has wi-fi, and I now have a laptop courtesy of work, me and some others will be blogging about during the event on the Continuum community weblog I’ve set up.
In real life I’m on a real crest of a wave at the moment. The end of several big projects, both in terms of work and esteem, are rapidly approaching and I’m excited/terrified in equal measure. I think the excitement is winning out and I’ve never felt so alive 😀
For all you people bored at work…
I’m having this very sunny day off being a big nerd at home
Saxondale, BBC 2 Monday nights

Quotes from the great man himself;
“And none of that Dance rubbish. If I want bleepy noises, I’ll stick my boot through the window of the car…”
“Here have some 70s Danish porn. Its a bit out of date, but all the equipment is in the right places”
“Maz I’ve done it again”
Love it, classic stuff. Reminds me of alot of Rocker/Rpgers with their aggressive know it all tendencies so its a bit painful to watch at times.
This holds the truth….
Or its one of those annoying “Hey this poem/lyric is meaningful to me, post a comment if you agree with me ” type of posts. You decide, you have free will after all.
Newt Style
Or rather lack of it.
This seasons’ look is like that of 10 years….only more so. Silly shorts, brightly coloured short sleeve shirts, hair long, boots, canvas deck shoes, combat trousers… If you know me you know the drill.
Managed to replenish the old Rock T-shirt collection since most of my old t-shirts literally fell to bits after 10-15 years of service. As well as the obligatory Motorhead and Dead Kennedy’s shirts, I also managed to replace from a German website my No Means No “You Kill me” T-shirt which I originally bought 16 years ago!!! Also added a rather nice blue “Innsmouth High School” courtesy of Tentacles GM reward system.
Got a nice selection of combat shorts, one a grubbly urban camo design the other a olive pair with flowers 😀 Had to explain the origin of past knee/shin length combat shorts to a rather bemused Rach.
The hair is coming along nicely. Looking less and less like Mr Mop head every day.
Picked up a nice Hawaiian shirt recently, although it is same as dreadtemujin‘s so we can not risk being in the same room wearing said shirt or the universe will implode in embarrassment. Found a good website that sells beautiful authentic Hawaiian shirts, so I’ll be purchasing one before Continuum.
