Life slows down…

Enough for me to make a post.

Two Weeks ago had a ten day holiday. Started this in fine style with Uncle Monty’s Birthday which took the traditional form of a film at the Vue Cinema and a curry at Sheesh Mahal. We all agreed the film, Revenge of the Sith, was entertaining fun. I liked it because it was so unashamably black more or less all the way through. My only peeve was that there wasn’t enough of the Wookie world. One of our number repeatably made whooshing light sabre noises in the pub afterwards. Inner 12 year olds were happy. Sheesh Mahal did what it does best, bog standard take away curries that are gorgeous. However since the parties pallets have tasted proper Indian food, we seemed to spend most of the time talking about other restaurants.

Had a week off which I had planed to get my head down and write loads. Nope were sorting out the house, putting shelves up downstairs and me clearing out the attic of books and crap. Now we have room to swing our three cats, but as you can see from the photo they would rather sit in the new shelves.

Back to work with a loud whooosh…. Lots of meetings and copy being written for the web site. Were in Build phase and boy are we building! Better still since the school site is going external only, I’ve been given the task of splitting off the staff & current student pages into separate sections, completely under my control. Here I will be able to get on with it without any interference, and my boss is actively encouraging me to do some pages which use my coding skills. Yay! I melted into a happy drooling mess the afternoon when this was all sorted out. After over two years I am finally doing the job 100% what I studied for when I did my MSc in Software development.

Other than that I succumbed to the time suck that are MMORPGs and bought Guild Wars last weekend. Lots of fun, which I can pop in and out of and best of all NO MONTHLY FEE!! Mini review when I’ve played some more.

Gradually reducing

Well here I am over half way through my week off and suddenly I’ve become all grown up. Yes folks unwittingly I’ve finally taken time off to sort out the house!!!!
[que long scream from Newt]

Mon-Wednesday we sorted out the front room with some book shelves and today I started in earnest on my attic retreat. The aim is to have it as a place of tranquillity were I can meditate, shoot people online, and I can actually get to my possessions. The reality at the moment is that I’m simply moving stuff around to get at stuff and taking endless bags of rubbish down.

Oh well time to take another bag of crap downstairs…….

The toys go winding down

Its been nearly six months since I had any proper length of time off. I’ve put in for next week off which I should get.

Its caught me unawares, instead of getting depressed I’ve just been feeling extremely wired and tense. I love my job but I find myself increasingly unable to focus on it.

So next week some serious chill time ๐Ÿ™‚

Stoopid Internet tag game

Damn littlerachcat for getting me involved in THIS NONSENSE (EXPLAINATION HERE)

If I could be a scientist . . . I’ld be mad scientist. I’lld build rocket chairs and make mad potions that shrunk people’s heads. I would be the inventor of the stupid gun.
If I could be a farmer . . . I’ld be a pig farmer and sit in the muck and go oink oink with the little pink piggies all day long. In fact it would all be a shameless cover for Britains all pig vocal choir
If I could be a musician . . .I’ld be the vocalist in a mad funk-punk-jazz combo. Hair would be big and stand on end. We would be called the “Love Pirates of Doom”
If I could be a doctor . . .I’ld be a Barefoot Doctor any day of the week.
If I could be a llama-rider . . .I’d ride a fuzzy llama into the sunset of a mad Spaghetti Western for midgets

I now hereby annoy keefybabe, itsjustaname and querimonious with this silly meme.

Incredible Weekend

After a quiet night in with the missus on Friday, got geared up to go to Rock of ages on Saturday night. Apart from my stag do last September this is the first time I’ve been out clubbing for years!! It was also Ginger Matt’s leaving do. So time to get reved up for some major luncancy. First up was fun with hair. I’ve grown out my number three so large dollops of firm hold hair gel later and I was the possessor of a hair style which was a cross between Sid Viscous, Edward Scisscorhands and a mad professor. Unfortunately no photos were taken, so I may have to do it again!

Meet up with Ginger and Nice Andy at Becketts bank and sank a couple of nice ales while we chewed the cud about work and other such nonsense.

Next up was Tampopo. Maximum thanks to keefybabe for recommending this one. It was gorgeous!! We spent the whole meal saying how much better than Fuji Hieros it was. The only slightly surreal element was all the clanking and cooking noises, which made it sound as if we were eating by an Industrial music gig.

Meet lots of folks at the Fenton that I’ve not seen in yonks. It was good to see Foz, grannyannie, Richard, dr_misrule, deputy_dug, and Gothy Mark and Uncle Monty amongst others, who were all in fine shape ๐Ÿ™‚

Then at some unknown time me, Ginger, Gothy Mark, Nice Andy, grannyannie & deputy_dug staggered up the road to the Union to go to Stylus & Rock of Ages. Defiantly no longer feel that connection with Leeds Union that I used to. Its all bright and sparkly! Stylus is impressive however. Kinda like a mini Nottingham Rock city. Danced loads to very cheesy music of my yoof and overall the experience was one of turning back the clock to 1995 and earlier !!

Overall I had a top time, but forgot about that weird end of the night thing were everyone staggers about in their own little drunk haze (yes it has been that long). Maximum thanks to grannyannie for telling me about the small and quiet taxi rank down near infirmary street. After a short walk down hill got a normally priced taxi and had a smooth ride home, were Rach was still up (after returning from her night out ) and made me pizza. Top!

Only question is when can I do this again?!?!

The sun is shining outside….

….but I’m in the attic working from home coding away ๐Ÿ™‚ For the last weeks I’ve been battling the inertia to start. Now I have and have made my first breakthrough I feel like I’m on a never ending exciting waterside:)

And all to the sound track of The Wipers (a band that influenced Nirvana majorly, basically an 80s punk psycadelic surf band)
