Lunch time of champions

Met keefybabe and lindabird at the Broadway hotel, which is the only decent pub in this here neck of the woods, this lunch.

lindabird had been to Wakey to join a Agency who would put her forward for Fujistui (a highly respected martial arts programme in these er parts) and IBM ( a well known maker of Nuclear missiles “our brand is our name”).

keefybabe couldn’t stop droning on about his new Mac, and subverted many conversations. He forced me to return his cds at gunpoint (the End: Sounds of Disaster and Censor “Empire Holds Down”) to which I gleefully capitulated and pressed Mastodon “Leviathan” and Dilligenger Escape Project “Miss Machine” into his hot sticky paws.

Thoughts and conversation turned to breasts, with the awesome revelation that keefybabe is hypnotised by them. I revealed also that when ever I go out these days I go out in a plastic protective bubble which gentlely dissolves over night, leaving beer my only salvation to a world of shocking stupidity.

They ordered lunch, so I was able to hijack talk onto the wildly popular topics of Bunnies and smart linoleum floors. Munching burgers, but leaving the salad ( a move they will regret in more advanced years) they were only able to nod and make positive noises.

Despite manfully downing 2 pintslindabird was able to drive keefybabe back to his mirrored prison (aka work) and to my home of joy.

The cats celebrated my homecoming and promptly fell asleep.

Another sunny day in leeds

Sorted out allot of mental issues I had with myself last night as poor Rachel hammered away at the her last assignment.

Especially good was the good soak in the bath, where for the first time in five years I felt as if I belonged in my skin and liked my age. Since I’ve turned 30 I’ve been guilty of looking back to some golden age back in the mid 90s when I was in my 20s considerably thinner, longer of hair (which didn’t have little streaks of grey in it). Working from home yesterday also did me good, since It gave me a rest and boosted my confidence.

I also in a spare hour finally finished the play test draft of my Monkey RPG, posted it to a private yahoo group for feedback. This was especially satisfying since I’ve been wittering on about it for the last 10 years, and is the first small step in getting it as a printed book. Pop over to d101games if you are interested in following my child’s progress.

Today I’m going to get my head down again and do allot of coding practice. I’ve got a project at work which needs me to do it in ASP.net/SQL server and I’ve been talking the talk for months. Now I have to walk the walk…especially since I most of the promotions at work need you to be able to web program using this combination.

So as the JCBs clank away outside finishing the Alex Beever college’s new car park, I’m popping of for a quick spot of brekky.

The sun is shining

At last!

Had a chronic dose of depression last week. Not because I was tired, not because I had got my self into a negative mode of thought, not simply because. No my life last week had various harsh realities, things that I had to face and sort out. Oh and while I was doing that nothing seemed to be going my way or right for me. So life sucked.

Then came Sunday things started to go right with me. My old pc which is five years old, gleefully accepted Windows XP pro, taking only 45 mins to install and run as smooth as butter. Yay! Then all of a sudden more thinks started coming right. Like dominoes falling perfectly into one another.

Still not out of the woods on many fronts, but I coping with life again and everything is coming up roses.

I have this pain all down my right diodes…

The weekend officially barfed. Huge chunks of grey barfness. Boring tedious painful barfness. Somehow last week I pulled my right back muscles, and instead of getting better over the weekend it got worse. Tired sleepy grouchy pain. Barf. Missed dr_misrule‘s 30th birthday party Saturday night because of it. Has sort of cleared up now, but I’m still taking it easy. Off to see Skinny Puppy tonight with keefybabe & attack_monkey, which will have to be a standing at the back absorbing the music rather than a way hey lets mosh type of gig.

Bah.

In good news all the resting over the weekend allowed me time to get reacquainted with Rome Total War and kick off a new campaign.

Bloody cat!!

I was only joking the other day that we were due a BBC related illness, since he tends to have a scape every 3-6 months (ear half bitten off, cancerous lump, tail nearly broken, suspected food poisoning…etc etc)

Then this lunch Rach rang me in a tearful state to tell me BBC has burst an abcess on his paw and has trotted all round the house with it.

He’s now at the vet and Rachel spent all morning cleaning carpets. I saw some of the blood on the tops of our bins on the way out this morning but thought it was that of a little rodent caught by one of the cats. Grrrrrrr!

Its been a week of grind. A continued armed police presence in both Leeds and Manchester, as the termites mill about perfumed and preened. Men with silly beards on TV threatening by the power of their voice and PR presense to bring more murder to our glasshouse lives. Yes kids welcome to the sloooooooooooooooow motion Apocalypse, and this week’s Album of the Week is the soundtrack.

This record pressed into my hands by keefybabe with the immortal words “you like loud and noisy stuff don’t cha?”. Well yes sir, I do. . Inspired by witnessing a rockerbilly act in a NY cellar bar playing on during a fire alarm, this album lives up to that inspiration. At turns jazz, hip hop, guitar based, its gloriously mixed with alarm sounds, electronic warning bleeps and infectus sense of whimsical tune. Nearest peers are Mr Bungle at their most demented, Frank Zappa at his most awkward (remember “Hot Rats” just when he got a tune going, he’d stop and play Kazoo. Lots of that sort of behavoir on this album.) and Jim Thirwell’s instrumental Steroid Maximus project. No surprise that its on Mike Patton’s Ipecac label. But I digress. This album is music to loosen your bowels to, give you giggly violent mood swings, and scare the neighbourhood cats.

Favourite track the right rollicking “To Hell With Everyone”.
