Head Trek

My head has been an interesting place this week.

Monday – I was hyper, Tuesday I was demotivated, Wednesday I was snappy, Thursday I didn’t know where I was, and Today I feel serene.

Probably because of all this moving lark.

Talking of which, it ain’t over yet kids. Tomorrow yet another trip back to the old house in Leeds (I was there breifly on Monday night checking it was still secure) to do some last miniute packing and take some stuff to the tip.

Moved

I was going to wait until NTL had sorted us out with t’internet at our new residence and make a long blow by blow account of how the move went.

Well after the fourth attempt yesterday (new excuse “we meant NEXT Tuesday”) I’m not waiting for hell to freeze over. Hence a quick summary written over lunch at work.

  • Oldham is nice but the wettest place on earth. Being an amphibian I love this 😀
  • I now get the bus and it takes 1hr door to door as opposed to 1.5-2 hrs and it is bliss.
  • Due to shorter bus journey I have much more energy to crack on with work, and I have my evenings back!
  • Cats have settled in and all flew solo outside by the end of the first week. So nah to the idea you have to keep your kitties in for a month. Saying this however BBC was very naughty and spent 12 hours out the first time he flew solo in the fields and garages behind our house. He made his mummy cry.
  • I have three reasonable pubs 5 mins walk from the house. Apparently there’s a really good pub that time forgot a short walk over the fields, which only serves real ale and only cheese and ham sandwiches on a Saturday lunch, IF YOU ASK FOR THEM! When the weather picks up defiantly trying that one out.
  • The house is gorgeous and despite teething troubles keeping it clean not the huge task that I thought it would be.
  • While living in a town with all that entails, good transport links, shops, we also are surrounded by countryside. The air is fresh and clean

Two of our cats summed up how I fell about the move. I was in the lounge and in walks Holly purring away. Now that’s something I’ve never seen before a cat purring on its own! Then Tiswas walks in purring away. Which gets me thinking, apart from the occasional niggle, that’s what I’ve been doing since I moved in 😀

M-Day

So its finally the day of the big move and I’m giddy with excitement. Were moving the last of the small boxes full of books, binliners full of clothes, and the house electronics (PC, phones, TV, DVD) today with the aid of the in-laws. We reckon it will take two trips in both our cars.

The room for the cats is prepared; covered litter tray (almost the cat equivalent of a chemical loo), food and scratching post were set up in the spare bed room, along with a plastic floor sheet- which has a disturbing burberry pattern!!!

We also bought the wireless router and usb network adapter (both in Speedbooster variety that claims to boost perfomance by 35%!!!) yesterday, so I should be back online on Tuesday.

Looking forward to being reunited with my stuff (comics, rpg books, dvds, cds, books) that have all been at the house since the begining of Jan. Tonight me thinks is sitting down having a beer and watching either Dune or Kung Fu Hustle on the new widescreen. 😀

A big thank you

To to everyone who came out for my leaving do last night. Thanks for all your well wishes for the move. Those of you who sent your regards to Rach, I passed on your messages to a very sleepy Good Lady of Smethurst this morning. Ultimate thanks to deputy_dug for putting up my brother George at short notice.

Now packing panic is in full flow, so I must return to boxing up the last of the kitchen.

Three days to go

I’m actually excited now. In fact bloody excited, like a small child on XMAS eve. Hence I didn’t sleep well last night. In fact the only person more excited about the move is my mother who rang up and demanded to know my new address last night.

Working from home today tieing up lose ends so I can forget it next week. Then tidying and some package. Then beer.

Let us pray

Oh Great Goddess of Doing Well at Interviews, please look over my friend Mavis.

Make sure he does not blunder, stammer, or blurk his way through this important 45mins-1hr of his life.

Please ensure that he makes appropriate eye contact and smiles so that he comes across as warm and not psychopathic to the lovely ladies and gentlemen of the interview board.

Protect him from unasked for and inappropriate excessive body odours.

Deliver unto him a good response to the immortal question;

“Now what would you like to ask us?”

Chillin’

Things are getting a tad intense here.

Rach is on nights again. I’ve packed all I can, so I’m patiently waiting for M-Day to spring into action putting the remainder of our stuff into boxes.

Yesterday was a day of anger that would have dreadtemujin proud, and today while more controlled I feel like my head’s about to explode.

Fortunately there’s an inner voice which is guiding me through it all, holding my hand and helping me get around safety, gagging the anger and making sure that I don’t say anything inappropriate.

The worst thing about feeling this way is that I know how goddamn lucky I am. Apart from the occasional bout of deep depression I’ve never had it tough. What really hammered it home was the train journey yesterday. I’ve generally been noticing the influx of young east Europeans in the Beeston area. Well there was this trolley guy on the train home, who served me while I was in my self-justified black mood after a day at work. He was a fresh faced twenty something, tall with long hair tied back. The sort of chap who would have been a good acquaintance at university, who would have had the girls at rock sock swooning. Except here he is working on the trains at a minimum wage job. The final hammerfall was when he took my money and I noticed that his hands were like those of a middle aged man. Suddenly I felt like a spoilt brat which chocolate smeared all over my face screaming my head off because the adults weren’t bending to my will.

Another thing that brings determination to get out of this negative aggressive slump is the fact I’ve just been talking via Trillan to my mate tzunder, who took the time to listen to me whine and generally be sympathatic to my pathetic angry self, despite currently having to deal with a personal situation that far outstrips my in terms of reality and severity.

So I’m chillin’ and getting my head sorted out, since the world is hurt enough without me charging round like a bull in a china shop.
