Phlegmtastic!

The last stages of my cold is burning itself out. It kept me awake last night with a horrible hacking cough. I’m now at the stage I must take care of myself or it will settle on my chest and cause an infection which will put me on a cause if antibiotics. So a little effort doing some deep breathing exercises and eating fresh veg will go a long way.

Had a long weekend which was much needed. On Saturday felt the calm return like a long lost friend. Spent most of the weekend chilling out playing on the computer and tidying up the house. Had the in-laws over on Friday night and watched Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on the old wide-screen, which is still rocking my boat serverly. On Saturday stayed up way too late playing Guildwars with Matt and introduced Rach to the joys of Skype. Sunday made an awesome curry and did more sorting out in the garage in the pouring rain.

The result of all this domestic activity is that the house is now free of clutter, stuff to go/ebayed is now living in the garage and all we have to do practically is have cat flaps installed in the kitchen and back door to free up the guest room. Not a moment too soon, with the increase in confidence and the onset of spring the cats want to be out all the time and boy do they know how to tell you!!. Fortunately the joiner is coming this Tuesday. So soon we’ll be in the state to invite people over as well as get on with normal lives unobessed with packing/unpacking.

Back at work now, much happier and relaxed after a much needed break 😀

Warm and fuzzy

Is how I feel today. I’ve got this wonderful cold that is making me feel this way. Its like being wrapped in cotton wool. I especially like the muffled effect all sound has at the moment.

Spoke to Ginger Matt last night and he might becoming to Tentacles with me in July (German Cthulhu/Chaoisum/HeroQuest con in a Castle overlooking the Rhine in the Blackforest) which would be outstanding.

Got the house tidy, despite the stroping of my inner 15yr old, last night and still had time to spend playing Call of Duty 2 (which in my absense seems to have been overun with various cheats)

Having a mellow day at work doing some database design and programming (result), then going home to a double bill of Battlestar Gallatica. Yay!

Ardvarks!!!

In a rather mixed mood at the moment. Mainly due to suffering withdrawal symptoms from not having broadband at home; BT is swamped with activation work (I blame all these offers from ISPs and PC World for cheap wireless connections) so apparently can expect the green light on the modem to come on any time between now and the end of next week!! Grr my inner 15th teen year old is stropping.

However I’ve been suitably entertained this week. Old skool PC gaming rules the roost, with me returning to the simple joys Halflife and marvelling at its sheer genius of game play and level design, which goes on forever!! Deus Ex is up on the menu next. Also been enjoying Sky + which we got earlier in the week. Watched Layer Cake, and its the best British Gangster film I’ve seen in ages. Up there with the Long Good Friday, and more twists than a curly wurly!. Well recommended.

Work is developing nicely, with me taking more steps away from simple content management towards web programming. Also as a bonus they’ve finally got our regrading exercise sorted and the Head of School Administration is coming round with the letters this afternoon.

Life is good 🙂

Well the latest broadband at home drama continues….with a cast of tens…

NTL turned up with a crew of ten today. One construction crew ,to dig up the public road and find the access point which someone has buried, and an installation crew to dig up the block paving and landscaped garden here at Castle Von Newport.

Lots of umming & rring ensued around my very short wife. Even the Supervisor was racked with indecision until my short, but not to be
messed with (shes a midwife), wife got him to be on the level. “Well I’m not meant to be saying this but if this was my house I wouldn’t have it done.”

Hence after almost a month of arsing about we’re cancelling the NTL account, and Pipex will be providing our broadband from now on.

So if you need to contact me via email please contact me on mrnewt AT gmail.com effective immeadiatly.

A calm in the storm

Work has finally become beclamed. Read Mr Newt is back on top of things. One website, one results system, lots of minor niggles sorted. Haven’t passed the finish line (site goes live/system totally loaded with data) but crusing towards it.

Same can be said of home. Did the final bit of packing at the Leeds house and a couple of trips to the tip on Saturday morning aided and abeited by the inlaws. Took less time than I thought, and by lunchtime we were in the pub round the corner from our new house supping the ale. Yay!!

Thursday is the final move, when the big van comes to pick up furniture and the last of the boxes.
