I recently had a small project that surprised me with how intensely personal it was.
So the plan was to pass on H’s Wii U console to another games obsessed seven year old boy. First port of call was cleaning it, which was a bigger job since he last used about ten years ago OMG the dust! Part of the big giveaway was all the Toys to Life, collectable figures that supported the three Disney Infinity games and, more memorable for me, the Skylanders series of about five games. With all the Star Wars, Marvel, Disney and Skylanders characters, there must have been a hundred plus figures. It’s a serious amount of volume reclaimed there!
So it’s all gone, and we’ve received thanks from the boy’s mother, and pictures of the lad gleefully playing with the console and Splatoon (which is why we passed it on in the first place). All the extra games, and the Skylanders are going to be rationed out over future birthdays/christmases.
Which really brought home why I have such a problem with space here at Castle Von Newt. It’s not that I’m intrinsically a hoarder; it’s just that I hold on to stuff that, in the scheme of things, only held people’s interest for a couple of years at the most, in the vain hope that they will want to use it again. But in many cases, it just gets put in a box and forgotten about. The prime offender is all my children’s baby clothes, currently in storage up in the attic, which I’ve held onto in preparation for our non existent third child!
Time to let go, make space, lighten the load, and move on with my life.
